A good solid practice was had with the focus on reintroducing some old tunes and a little bit of competition practice. Also the big news of the week is the new Band website – evidence of plenty of hard work by Lou and Garry H over the past couple of years. Have a look for yourself on www.cohhpb.org.au
Scott and Lou are on the recruiting trail and have prepared flyers to be handed out to potential students. Contact has be made with the Senior Master (Music) at the New Town High School who is keen to promote the Band to the music students at the school. Also a big welcome to young Madaline who has started learning the pipes.
Our feelings go out to Joy whose father passed away last weekend. Joy has taken a short period of leave from the Band. The Band is organising a card and flowers to be sent to Joy and the funeral service to be held in Cootamundra tomorrow.
Fund Raising
The end of the parade season happens this week with the Salamanca parade on Saturday and the final Cruise Ship parade next Tuesday. Between the two we hopefully will pick up close to $900.
Band playing, student and social membership fees are now due (discounts apply in certain circumstances). Please see Charles to pay your fee ASAP. This year the Board of Management has agreed to direct $70 of the playing membership fee of $120 towards:-
· A contribution towards the purchase of brogue shoes(Chris Rugari is negotiating with St Kilda Retail for the ; or
· A contribution towards a Member’s cost of the Daylesford trip.
The Band Management Board has decided to utilise all the ship parade money in updating band Uniform and Equipment. The progress of uniform/equipment upgrades over the past few months is:-
· Upgraded belts and socks
· Pipe Bag covers $1320 (received and paid for)
· Sporrans $5000 (received and paid for)
· Pipe cords $990 (received and paid for)
· Upgrade of the drums which are in need of maintenance (Next priority – quote being obtained from Gary W).
· Hyland In-line Drone Valves $1080 (received and paid for)
· Brogues (pricing options – the best price available for brogues is $143 which with the band discount means it will cost band members just $73. The CoHHPB Board will decide whether to accept this price). Please let Myself or Charles know if you are not happy with the Band asking you to buy a set of brogues or the purchase will cause you financial hardship. Fittings of the brogues will be in the Band Room next week when the Band will have samples of all available sizes.
