2007-08 Awards
Well done to Chris Rugari who has been awarded the Absolom Trophy for Best Drummer 2007/08. Chris began learning the tenor drum in August 2006 and has been parading with the band since Celtic Force in July 2007. Her advancement from a student player to a regular member of the parade and competition Band has been a huge achievement given the difficulties experienced in the provision of consistent and quality tuition over the past 12 months.
Ann Beaton has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the band over the past 12 months. Ann was heavily involved in organising the 2007 Burns Night Ceilidh as well as being instrumental in leading the team organising the 2008 Burns Night. Notwithstanding the heavy workload with respect to the Band's social activities, Ann has been a committed parading piper and board member, and over the past 12 months her playing skills have improved immensely.
The Band would also like to recognise our Pipe Major Garry Fletcher, who celebrates 50 years of piping this March. Garry has been heavily involved in tutoring pipers over these years. Until recently Garry was an accredited judge for the Australian Pipe Band Association, having first being appointed as the youngest piping judge way back in 1967. He has been pipe major of 4 pipe bands, all of which have won championships in Grade 2, 3 and 4. Garry has competed in numerous Australian pipe band championships and has played and led bands in Tattoos in Australia, United States, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Scotland.
